In 1 Timothy 6:11-12, Apostle Paul tells Timothy how to persevere in the Faith: But for you, O man of God, flee these things: love of money, false doctrine. [In other scriptures we are commanded to flee immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18), idolatry (1 Corinthians 6:18), and youthful lusts (2 Timothy 2:22).]  Paul further advises Timothy to: Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.  Fight the good fight of faith.
